Bio:
Coi has been a staple of the electronic music scene in Toronto for over 12 years. Coming from a Jazz and Blues backgroud Coi has a real sense of musicality. His father is an acclaimed Blues Musician who instilled a sense of melody in him over the years. Never one to shy away from the experimental Coi has been an Ableton user since version 2.0 . Originally inspired by early turntablists Coi holed up in his basement for 4 years scratching and beat juggling records for hours on end. Making the move into hip hop after his fascination with turntablism peaked he began to freestyle and beatbox in order to gain a deeper understanding of flow. Always one to stay true to his gut his productions can vary from ambient cinematic compositions to driving breakcore noise. An avid circuit bender Coi enjoys destroying childrens toys (a la speak and spell) and recording the process. A firm believer in the DIY lifestyle Coi with his long time buddy DR. Explosion Face have been building midi controllers and custom software over the years. Teaming up with Jawbone to form Dubslingers he helped form the dubstep scene in Toronto by throwing the longest running weekly for over 4 years. Always looking for new ways to make noise he has been involved in numerous art/music projects most notably the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche event where he modified a reaktor patch to be triggered by human interaction utilizing open source react table software. With 2 soundtracks under his belt Coi used for dvd learning tools for at-risk aboriginals Coi is all about creating moods with his tunes.
His recent EP was released on Intellegenix in collaboration with Bloddy L., a long time JUNGLIST and avid bass enthusiast. Coi & Bloody L formed 3RD PERSON to feed off each others strengths and produce deep bass music. Staying holed up in the lab this winter they are hoping to complete a full length album by summer.
Coi doesn't stop there. With unlimited creative energy comes great responsibility and so he has embarked on the creation of the ultimate online radio station, Dubplate.fm. Over the past 2 years he has worked tirelessly to find the right people to collaborate with on this project. With the imminent launch of the new website Coi will provide a creative outlet for established and "new to the game" artists who wish to showcase their talents. He's motivation is to represent all styles of bass oriented and hip hop music across Canada and push our artists as far as they can go. There are no limits.
